What do you do when you’re told you’re getting a large format poster printer and 3D printer and you have to make it work? In this presentation, we will discuss how our access services staff turned these two pieces of equipment (and now more!) into a new service point, our university library makerspace, which is dedicated to bringing innovative technology to library patrons.
Throughout the presentation, we will discuss: the history of our Makerspace, (how it ended up in access services, and why it makes sense that a makerspace would be a part of access services!), best practices for making sure the space runs smoothly, and finally we will talk about how changing our expectations led us to creating the Makerspace community as we know it today.
